Steven Krig : Fused Glass

Joy’s Meadow

The Imagery…

The Imagery on this site is the result of repeatedly fusing glass powders, sheets and rods at 1500 degrees Fahrenheit. Each piece becomes a unique art work– the result cannot be duplicated. I am self-taught, and the techniques I use were developed over many hours of experimentation.

Glass is a unique medium. It allows me to partner with the Light. Once the glass is constructed, the light is free to dance within the imagery, introducing countless subtle changes along its path.

Light will continue to work its brush, long after my hand has left this Imagery.

This project was started in 1978. I was interested in kiln forming glass… back in the day…. but I did not pursue it. This box is combined of both cut glass and kiln formed pieces. The yolk pieces were formed in a kiln and the top was assembled in 1978. The remaining yolk pieces were stored with the plans and project glass until 2010 – at which time I finished the box. Sometime later, I purchased a glass kiln and began my experimental journey with fused glass.

I am currently living in Wilsonville Oregon and most of my artwork has been sold through the Icefire Gallery in Cannon Beach Oregon — that is where I take my new pieces once I complete them. If you visit the Oregon coast, be sure to visit Icefire.
